Beginning July 1st, the Diocese of Toledo implemented a new on-line, one-stop registration program so that any adult who volunteers with our youth (at St. Michael School and through all parish activities) can complete their needed Protecting Youth requirements through an on-line system called VIRTUS. This requirement pertains to, but is not limited to, adults who volunteer with children in the lunchroom, Discipleship/FROGS, youth group, field trips, classroom helper, coaching, retreats, 8th grade trip, Scouts, nursery, prayer groups, choirs, festival, servers etc.
Effective immediately, any and all adults whose ministry includes any contact with children are expected to complete three (3) on-line components of Protecting Youth registration at VIRTUS which remain on-file for 5 years.
(1) reading and signing an electronic expectation form,
(2) completing a social security number based background check ($25) (through Fastrax) – which replaces fingerprinting (and was previously $50-$60). The parish has generously offered to cover the $25 fee for volunteers if that is necessary.
(3) completing Protecting God’s Children Online Awareness Session 3.0 (also available in Spanish) at no charge, which will take about 75 minutes (formerly the Shield the Vulnerable course was $6).
(If you had fingerprints and/or the Protecting Youth course completed within the last five years, those should still be on file, and should not need to be repeated for 5 years but you will still need to register on the VIRTUS system.)
Please contact Susan Campbell our St. Michael Compliance Officer as soon as possible at email@example.com if your service in our parish includes ministry with children to learn all you need to complete your registration.
We'd like to have all this on file by December 31, 2016.

DISCIPLESHIP - St. Michael Parish Schools of Religion
The St. Michael Parish Discipleship Program continues the teaching mission of Jesus by providing catechesis to the children of our parish. Discipleship is Religious Education for children in 1st through 8th grade who attend public school. The Discipleship Program uses current curriculum and is established to help students learn and understand the teachings of the Church. We commit ourselves to cooperating with and assisting parents in making the teachings of Jesus viable and meaningful in the lives of their children. To register your children for classes on Sunday (11:15AM - 12:30PM) or Tuesday (6:30PM - 7:45PM) at Saint Michael School and Formation Center, please print and submit the Discipleship Registration Form.
Arrival & Dismissal: Sunday students are to arrive no sooner than 11:00AM and Tuesday students no sooner than 6:15PM at the Activity Center. They are to be picked up from their classrooms at dismissal time. Parents, please do not be late!
Attendance: Students are expected to faithfully attend classes. Too many absences disrupt the faith development of the student as well as the class. If a student will be absent due to a long-term commitment, please see the student’s teacher for missed assignments.
Academic Expectations: Each student is expected to do his/her best to reach his/her potential and allow other students to reach theirs. Specifically, each student is expected to:
1) Come to class prepared
2) Be attentive in class
3) Adhere to classroom rules set by the Catechist (teacher)
4) Respect feelings and ideas of others
Fees: Parishioner Rate: $50.00 for one; $60.00 for two; $70.00 for three or more.
Non-Parishioner Rate: $70.00 for one; $85.00 for two; $100.00 for three or more.
If you are unable to afford the Discipleship fees, please contact the
Parish Office at 419-422-2646.
Discipline Policy: Discipline is based on respect for one’s self and others. Respecting the rights of others results in a good classroom atmosphere for educating and learning. In order to provide this atmosphere, the classroom must be free of excessively disruptive behavior so the catechist is able to focus on teaching. Therefore, the following is our procedure for discipline:
We wish to welcome all 3, 4 and 5 year olds to FROGS! Join us each Sunday morning during the 10:00 a.m. mass September through May as we discover together what it means to be a friend of God’s Son. Hear awesome stories about Jesus…sing…play…create. Make new friends as we have fun learning about God’s Son, Jesus! No need to pre-register. Drop-off and pick-up will be held in the auditorium.
Our main purpose for FROGS is to provide a program to engage three, four and five-year olds in their friendship with Jesus. Each week we will focus on God’s Word as proclaimed to the assembly. FROGS will center its program on the Liturgy of the Word. This is how we come to know Jesus. We will then reinforce the message through music, games and arts & crafts! It will be an exciting adventure each week as Jesus becomes more and more real to our youngsters!
VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL
